James H. Richardson, a founding partner in Richardson Maples, PC, is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. He is a fifth generation lawyer, the son of a former Alabama State Bar president, the grandson and brother of judges serving Madison County, Alabama. He received his undergraduate education at Davidson College (B.A. 1975) and his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law (J.D. 1978), where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. A former Law Clerk to the Honorable J. Foy Guin, Jr., United States District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama (1978-79), Mr.  Richardson was admitted to practice in the State of Alabama in 1978, and has since  been admitted to practice in the U. S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama, the U. S. Claims Court, the U. S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Eleventh and Federal Circuits, and to the U. S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Richardson has served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama, and  is a member of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), the Alabama Association for Justice (formerly the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association), and is a former member of the Defense Research Institute and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association.

Mr. Richardson's practice has always involved civil litigation, representing plaintiffs and defendants, individuals and businesses, both domestic and foreign. Over the years, he has been engaged in a broad spectrum of cases, with a primary emphasis on insurance related matters, such as liability claims of all types, ,  coverage disputes, bad faith and fraud, handling hundreds of cases for the insurance industry. Frustrated with the hostile manner in which his former clients treated accident victims, policyholders, and their lawyers alike, Mr. Richardson chose to limit his practice to the representation of victims of accidents and insurance company abuse. Mr. Richardson finds great professional gratification in the opportunity to bring his experience to bear on behalf of the injured and to protect the unknowing from the predatory practices of today's insurance industry.

Mr. Richardson and his wife Nancy are the proud parents of two sons. Their older son Ben is a 2016 honors graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law and is serving as a Law Clerk to the Honorable W. Keith Watkins, Chief Judge of the U. S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Their younger son Will, a student at Vanderbilt University, is also contemplating law school. Jim and Nancy are members of First United Methodist Church and have been active in a variety of community boards in the Huntsville area.
